Well, I apologize for the ever growing gap of time between my posts. It always works out that when I have an epiphany and want to write, I find myself consistently having to postpone due to other events in my life.
So, I will now (finally) write about something.
Last weekend I was riding through Montgomery with Shelly after Alabama's Jr. Miss...excuse me, Alabama's Distinguished Young Woman Program. (the new name is quite a mouthful) Our destination at 10:00 that night? Only the greatest place on the entire planet: Krispy Kreme. It was DELICIOUS-as always. Anyways, we had just left Krispy Kreme (which my computer keeps telling me I am spelling wrong-lie.) and were headed back to my house with our heels discarded in the passenger floorboard and the radio loud, and it was SO foggy! Like, horror movie foggy. I kept expecting some creeper with a dripping axe to emerge from the mist and be standing in the middle of the road, (you're welcome for that image by the way) which then led me to brainstorm about all the items I could use as a weapon should I be in need of one. The black wedges I had worn would not do near as much damage as Shelly's tall, sharp heels...
"I'm just going to have to go slow, cause I can't see anything!"
...yes, pointy heel over wedges as a weapon for sure.
"Like, can you see? Cause I may just be going blind." I started paying attention to the road. Nope. I couldn't see very far in front of us either. We would go through one traffic light and could barely see the next one until we were right up on it-I hate driving in bad/weird weather. After assuring Shelly that if she was going blind, which I was pretty sure she wasn't, I was too, because I couldn't see much either. So we could at least be blind together if that was the case. She didn't seem reassured.
We rode on through the fog, finding it funny that you couldn't see what was up ahead at all, but when you eventually got to that spot on the road, you could see exactly where you were. Then, it hit me-
That is exactly how we see God's plan in our lives!! Sometimes, it's all really foggy, and you can't see more than a few feet in front of you, but once you get to that place all your surroundings are clear and you can see right where you are!
Ahhhh-I see what you did there, God. Very nice, very nice. :)
ALSO-notice that I don't say: it looks foggy from a distance, but if you just keep sitting there it will all clear up and you will get it.
No. That's not how it works.
Sometimes, God does ask us to be still and wait, but you aren't going to get anywhere if you aren't moving. (And it's typically best if you move in a forward direction, otherwise you lose ground, which is not cool.) Shelly and I weren't able to see what was up ahead by stopping the car in the middle of 231 and waiting for it to clear itself out, no, we followed what we could see of the road, and what appeared foggy from a distance became more visible as we approached it.
Frequently, we don't always get what God is doing. I know I rarely do. He is still the God of the Universe though, and he knows what he is doing, even when it is super foggy to me. And the fact that he is always sovereign is not debatable nor changeable by a little bit of fogginess in our sight. He is constant. Forever and ever and ever and ever. Always. When he sends you somewhere and things get a little blurry, don't pull over and park-keep moving and following him. :) He's got the whole world in his hands, remember?...that means you, and me, and everyone else. Don't let a little fog keep you from all the awesome things he is doing in your life. :) God is good, all the time. And all the time, God is good.

Had a similar experience a few years ago at Newfound Gap near Gatlinburg. it was very foggy, so the fabulous view was totally obscured, yet families were still lining up and taking photos. i thought they were wierd taking photos which would only be a foggy background, then it hit me that we do that all the time. God has a spectacular world that we often times never see because we are moving through the fog.
ReplyDeleteI was headed home from school on this same night.... Had to be the same night as it was terrible! Very thankful that God allowed me to read this today. Thank you, Tori!
